DULCIMERS and RECREATION UNLIMITED

The Buckeye Dulcimer Festival  is held at Recreation Unlimited, 'Unlimited dreams for Individuals with Disabilities,'  just east of Ashley, Ohio, which is about 30 miles north of Columbus not too far from I-71.  RU is a fine full-service facility used for handicapped "campers" in the summer and for groups and meetings throughout the year.

RU is a nonprofit organization providing programs in sports, recreation and education for individuals with physical and developmental disabilities.  In addition, the beautiful campus and facilities are available for a variety of other activities including school group outings, corporate team building, conferences and workshops.

Camper Scholarship Program!  Fifty percent of those that RU serves require some form of financial aid to attend summer residential camp.  Through 'lease groups' such as the Buckeye Dulcimer Festival, Recreation Unlimited is able to provide financial assistance for qualifying campers.

THE WEATHER    In moving the festival from mid-March to mid to late April, we are looking at moderating weather.  Gone are the worries of ice, although, there may be some snowflakes in the air.  We look for SPRING TIME conditions.  The beautiful campus will be blossoming and accessible to us with walking trails, possibilities of outdoor activities.

A Blast from the Past:   The Blizzard of 2008 is legendary ... remembered fondly by many folks as challenging yet exciting and will never be forgotten and, hopefully, never repeated.  Many friendships were forged that year as everybody helped each other and pitched in to make things work and keep the festival going.  RU's Maintenance Department proved to be just the best!   A standing ovation by all as they took a break said it all.

THE FACILITY    As you can see, RU's campus is quite spread out and that fact has become an increasing consideration in the BDF planning process.  With the use of golf carts and wagons, the move-in process has become so much easier with a lot of fun mixed into the process.  We thank Donnie for making sure all is ready and that the other volunteers helping, know what to do.

Do check out the information on RU's sleeping cabins.   It's amazing to see groups of friends 'make their nests' and create HOME for four days.   It's also amazing to watch folks make room for one more person ... a new face.  There are no words to express how wonderful this is.   Newbies won't feel that way for long.

BDF 2019 became the first year for us to be able to use RU's newest housing option, the Greif House.
This lovely new retreat center is made up of pods offering 3 person and 6 person housing options complete with restrooms right there in the pod.
For more details, go to the BDF Housing Options page.

Once everyone is settled for the week, the music starts.
